Remember that commercial years ago, where the kid was doing something bad and the parents demanded to know where their son learned such things only to have the kid yell back at them, “From you! I learned it by watching you!”Well, I’ve been trying to teach my sons the value of helping those less fortunate than we are. So, I decided to teach them, not with my words, but with my actions.

So, come April 5th, I’ll be spending the night in a cardboard box to raise money for an organization who helps homeless families get back on their feet again. This isn’t the only thing we’ll be doing, mind you, but it’s a start. I want my boys to know that even though we aren’t rich by any means, we ARE better off than 90% of the world. And as the 10%, I feel we should be doing more to help others.

I’ll be live tweeting as well as facebooking the event. Well, as long as my battery holds out, that is. If you feel so moved to help out, I have to have all checks or money by March 30th, so I can get them turned in by the deadline for the Box Car City event.

The group here is Family Promise of Greater Brandon, but there are other Family Promise organizations around the country. Check them out.

Wow, that really is leading or teaching by example. I am impressed that you would go to such lengths to teach your children a lesson.

Thank you! And some day when he’s old enough, maybe he can join me in the box! 😀

It was amazing. I need to write a follow-up post about it. But life went crazy-go-nuts on me right after the event.

Needless to say, I WILL be doing this again next year! 😀
